Saturday
We went to the Earth Day Festival at 11 this morning and stayed for a few hours. Liberto knew every other person there, and I was re-acquainted with many of his City colleagues whom I've known over the years. Then the four of us went for a Tex Mex lunch at Moe's Grill, then drove around comparing prices on kayaks. Liberto and Shawn like to fish; in fact, they're going out to Tybee tomorrow to try once again. They'd like to have a boat. There are some waterways around Tybee that are not ocean water, but connecting channels, and the fishing is supposed to be good. We also live in a community with a dock on the briny water which feeds into the river and the ocean. L. needs a diversion or a hobby from the stress at work, so I'm eager to get him a boat, now that he has a live-in fishing buddy. We did not see any two-seater kayaks at the three stores we visited. We thought about buying two one-seaters. The one for Shawn could be purchased on sale for less than $300, but for Liberto, we needed one that could hold his weight (alas, Liberto is not frail!). Those were more expensive. We mostly just investigated. Someone at Earth Day told them that they knew of a kayak shop on the road to Tybee that was selling at a very good price, so they'll investigate tomorrow on their way to their fishing expedition. I would also like to go kayaking, so if we get a couple boats, that will be super. I went once a few years ago when Paul and Liberto and I volunteered to do a City sponsored clean-up of a branch of the Ogeechee River, and we glided along so pleasantly in our little boats, along with dozens of other volunteers. It was a lovely experience.
Oh, how I've enjoyed Spring Break! I love being around the house doing whatever I want. I graded some research papers, started reading Lord of the Flies, so I can be one step ahead of the students when we start it next week, and did lots of other odds and ends, nothing remarkable, and the week has slipped by happily and quickly. I've also been reading the memoir Happens Every Day and have about 20 more pages, so I'm going to go devour them right now.
