Saturday, May 17: No Country for Old Men kept me awake, very awake, for the entire viewing evening last night! What a goose-bump raising thriller it was. The antagonist, pictured above, was so chilling and creepy, that my pounding heart and startle reflex got a good work-out. Imagine that, I did not nod off once during this one.
I love it when I awaken during the night, briefly wonder how many hours are left till the 5:20 alarm, and then realize that it's sometime after midnight on Saturday morning! There won't be any alarm! Then I fall into sweet oblivion quite rapidly. This morning, I slept till 8:00. L. and I drank coffee and read the newspaper. I graded SAT's off and on. They have a system now which allows you to log on and off as you prefer, rather than work for set hours. I also worked on the house clutter, which will probably never be conquered, P. mowed the front lawn, and L. did a few laundries (but why, oh why, does he keep over-filling the washing machine?)
Later, in the afternoon, he and I drove to Lenscrafters to get the bows of my glasses tightened, and on the way home, we stopped at Lowe's to get some kind of number display thingie to go on top of the new mailbox, a certain type which our Neighborhood Association has required that everyone put up by June. Just as well, since ours is inching forward towards the road. While there, we discovered some floor laminate that was on sale at a wonderful price. We planned to do P's room next, and although this might have been bordering on impulsive, I suggested that we just buy the wood right then and there. My philosophy is that if something's on sale, and you're right there, right now, and you're planning to get it anyway, why not just do it? Otherwise, the next time you come back, it will be gone, or the price will have gone up. So we loaded the 200 square feet of floor planks into the car, and got it home. But the first not-so-pleasant task, in preparation for the new floor, will be to clear everything out of P's room, which is more or less like a junkyard or a landfill.
Time to go watch tonight's feature, Stephen Kings, The Mist!
